Build Tuominen Yard
Last Fall, the Concordia University community paid their final respects to alumnus Jarkko Tuominen ‘94, whose accidental death from a fall cut short a life of energy and joy. This inspirational alumnus helped put Concordia athletics and the men’s soccer program on the map and remains one of the most decorated Cavaliers in school history.
Concordia University has plans to build a new state of the art athletic complex including all-weather, lighted, collegiate level soccer and baseball fields. Each field will have stadium seating for more than 1,000 spectators and additional facilities for training rooms and concessions. This complex will meet the growing needs of Cavalier athletics, and the broader North and Northeast Portland community. The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the Tuominen family, and several generous individuals have made gifts to kick-off the $1 million campaign to name the soccer field Tuominen Yard.
At Concordia University, we believe that athletics prepares leaders who model character in action. That is how Jarkko Tuominen lived his life — eager to be in the game, quick to support a teammate, and determined to do the right thing the right way. Your support of this campaign will help Concordia share these values and transform our community.
